UV Repair Cream

SKU 742

UV Repair Cream is a cream for anyone who wants to prevent and repair damage caused by the sun, in addition to providing many other benefits for their skin. This cream contains ingredients for skin lightening, anti-aging, anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, antioxidant, and much more!
Old news: UV damage is a major cause of skin aging
Good news: skin aging is not irreversible
This will sound repetitive, but if you keep away from the sun and use sunscreen, your skin will stay younger and healthier.
The smell and color of the prior version of the UV repair cream could be a little strong for some users. This new UV Repair Cream has been reformulated so that users have the ability to modify the strength of the base cream using the separate boosters. The cream and booster can be purchased together or separately. Please see this Video for more information on the new cream, instructions for mixing the booster into the cream, and usage instructions.
Booster Ingredients: Oil: Black Cumin Oil, Pomegranate Seed Oil. Powder: Myricetin, Soy Isoflavones, Ferulic Acid
Taking into account that most of the information on this subject was unavailable in the 50s and 60s, for many of us, our skin has already suffered the damage, and now we have to cope with the consequences. Yes, it is possible to turn back the clock and rejuvenate the skin. How? By protecting it from further damage and by providing the skin with tools to help reverse the damage inflicted on cellular DNA by age and the environment.
What can you do? You can protect your skin and the skin stem cells that will allow your skin, this most important human organ, to heal and regenerate. The objective of a “rejuvenating” cream should be to promote the skin's own healing powers by protecting its stem cells and supplying actives known to help repair DNA mutations. This is why we created UV Repair Cream (aka Be Kind Rewind Cream).
Please Note: The UV Repair Cream is a product that takes a few weeks of use to be effective.
Hannah discusses UV Repair Cream in this Video

We received some excellent feedback from the product launch. This is collected in unedited form in our forum.

Apply a thin layer of cream to clean skin daily. Use of a separate Sunscreen is strongly recommended.

Please see the video below for instructions on mixing in the optional boosters. Depending on the desired color/aroma of the cream, the booster tubes can be added in small amounts or the whole tube can be added.

Radiation: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.

How to Get “The Glow” - If you are a professional photographer you know that the skin does not glow, but that the clever use of light can make it look so, like in the magnificent photographs of Greta Garbo.
I found out today that women in the 1930s wanted the same glow that we want in our skin in 2012. Jonatan brought me a lovely gift from France, a poster advertising an original way to get “the glow.”
Promising beautifying and curative activity, the Tho-Radia cream and powder were sold in France during the early 1930's. The products were advertised as the creation of “Docteur Alfred Curie” although he may not have even existed (Pierre Curie had died in 1906, and the rest of his family were active physicists too busy to sell beauty treatments). Never mind that since 1900, just 2 years after the discovery of Radium, it was known that it could damage the skin, as physicist Antoine Becquerel (radioactivity units are named after him, he discovered radioactivity with Pierre and Marie Curie) found out when he carried a small ampoule of radium around in his waistcoat pocket for 6 hours and reported that his skin ulcerated.

Take home lesson? Very bad people taking advantage of women’s desire for beauty have been around for centuries. You can’t afford to be naïve and ignore science (as opposed to quackery).
Radioactivity is a form of radiation, and we can keep it as an example of “the ugly,” we only encounter rarely.

Sunlight is More than What We See

Ultraviolet light is classified into three categories: UVA (long wave, black light, 315 to 400 nm) which causes tanning, UVB (medium wave, 280 to 315 nm) which causes sunburn, and UVC (short wave, germicidal, 100 to 280 nm) which is filtered out by the atmosphere and does not reach us. Incidentally, the ozone (O3 in the picture above) layer absorbs 97–99% of the UV from about 200 nm to 315 nm wavelength, which potentially damages exposed life forms on Earth.
Not Everything UV Light Does to You is Bad: Ultraviolet light (between 270 nm and 300 nm) reaching our skin breaks down 7-dehydrocholesterol flowing in the bloodstream, converting it into vitamin D. Experts believe that our efforts to curtail skin damage are pushing us into the area of vitamin D deficiency. Sunscreen and dark skin interfere with your capacity to make vitamin D, but unless you work outdoors, you may not get enough sun even if you don’t wear sunscreen. Talk to your MD, and she/he may measure vitamin D or simply tell you to get a supplement. You will probably need 2,000-4,000 IU, so the 400 or 500 IU in your multivitamins may not be enough. But don’t skimp on sunscreen, because this is unlikely to solve your vitamin D problem (especially if you are dark skinned) and because skin cancer and skin aging are not nice.

It is known that lying in the sun can make you feel good.  I am sure this is why I see people lying in the sun for hours, even though they look red and puffy. It can’t possibly be just to show their friends that they have money for a vacation in the sun, right? This “sunbathing addiction” may be related to the release of endorphins as UV reaches our skin. That fleeting sense of well being is not worth the “elephant skin” and, worse, melanoma, which years of sunbathing may bring.

If you are over 50 and had beach vacations, look at the sun-exposed side of your arm: patches of hyperpigmentation, whitish areas where there is little melanin and wrinkles, plus a little scar made by your dermatologist when she excised a dark, menacing looking mole. Now look at the “shaded” side of your arm and you will find mostly youthful, elastic, and smooth skin.
Ultraviolet light stimulates melanin production and the melanin formed absorbs the UV radiation in sunlight, so it protects the cells from further UV damage. However, significant melanin production takes about a week, so during the first day on the beach your skin is fully exposed to the fiery sun, and unprotected by melanin.

Sunburn is a delayed erythema (red skin) caused by ultraviolet B, which induces an increase in blood flow beginning about 4 hours following exposure. The underlying cause of this vascular reaction is damage to the cell from photochemical reactions and the generation of reactive oxygen species. There is damage to DNA, and several inflammatory pathways are activated, particularly involving prostaglandins that ultimately lead to vasodilatation and edema. Sunburn is not only painful, it is also a marker for severe UV damage and a predictor of worse things to come (like skin cancer) within years or decades. Why? There is a correlation between erythema and DNA damage; the UV wavelengths more efficient at producing erythema are also the most effective at forming pyrimidine dimers. There is a link between a history of repeated, severe sunburn and increased risk for melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancer.

The Promises – UV Repair in the Media

I find it appalling how the media (aided by doctors who seem to have forgotten all the biology they ever learned!) provide free advertising to products that promise to reverse UV damage using ingredients that can’t possibly fix UV damage to human skin. The products contain a bacterial extract that would contain an enzyme capable of fixing DNA damage in bacteria. Bacterial DNA is very different from human DNA, and so are the enzymes capable of repairing them.
There is no question that the DNA repairing enzymes of Micrococcus help this bacterium recover from UV damage to its DNA. The question to answer is “are you a bacterium?” If the answer is “no,” then don’t buy the products and don’t believe the marketing that goes with it.
Life depends on permeability properties and separation between compartments. For a molecule to enter the nuclear membrane though its pores, it needs to have the right sequence that will be recognized by the nuclear membrane. So it is fortunate that the DNA fixing enzymes supposedly present in this bacterial extract will NOT enter your cells (and certainly not your cells’ nuclei), otherwise you may risk a bad allergy that may turn into your body attacking your own DNA repair enzymes.
I will not repeat here the misinformation concerning these products, as misinformation has a way to reach people in a way that real science doesn’t (misinformation is a lot more exciting!) but avoid anything that contains “Micrococcus lysate.”
You have your enzymes that repair DNA, and they are very good at it.  Conversely, you cannot use foreign enzymes to enter the cells of your body and then the nuclear envelope and fix YOUR DNA. This does not happen thanks to a very effective immune system that is there to protect us from foreign microbes.

I love science fiction, but in literature, not in advertising.

This cream has made my skin brighter and more even. Every product I add from skinactives changes my skin for the better.

I've been using this cream for only a few days and already my skin looks better than it has in YEARS. I am 33 and abused my skin as a teen--baking in the tanning beds...I hope this helps the damage that is emerging lighten up... So far my skin looks super hydrated, it is very soft, and my pores are tighter already. To me, that is incredible after three day's use (I use it at night and use the SPF30 during the day. I took off one star because of the slight gritty particle here and there and the color kind of put me off at first. I look foward to building my anti-aging arsenal with Skinactives. This has been the first cream i've used that has blown me away! "

I just had to drop u guys a quick note regarding your "Be kind rewind" cream. I think I have tried almost every skincare cream out there over the past twenty years, and I have never used a cream that delivered such dramatic and speedy results. This stuff is Amazing!!!!!!!!!! A few undisolved gritty pieces in it as others have mentioned---------BUT PLEASE do not change a thing!!!!!!----LOL It is a supurb cream that delivers, highly recommended. Chris Collins

I've been using this for about 8 weeks now and I'm exceptionally pleased. I used to get regular glycolic peels on my face but stopped a little over a year ago when I felt they might be doing more damage than good. When I decided to try Be Kind Rewind cream it was a last ditch effort before going back to the ethetician....and I've not gone back. It's truly amazing. The texture and tone of my skin vastly improved. I highly, highly recommend for sun damaged skin.

The first thing I noticed about this was the smell...lovely. It's a wonderful cream that can be used day or night. I alternate it at night with my Mitochondrial Booster Cream. Leaves my skin soft and not greasy. I work outside so this really helps to brighten my skin.

Oh...My...GOODNESS! This is like hitting the SKIN CARE LOTTERY~ I've been using various anti-aging products on my face for the past 15 years or more. I started off with cheap over the counter stuff that you find at Walmart, then as my skin started looking older I went on to the more expensive department store lines, Dr. Perricone, etc, which I used from about 2003 - 2007. I had quite a bit of success with the Perricone, mainly in that my skin didn't start to pull loose from its underpinnings and sag and bag like almost everyone else in my age group has had happen in the past 5 or 10 years. I still have just one chin, for example, while my husband now has two... or maybe three. It's hard to tell, the second one is so big. But I love him madly ;) . With the higher cost of living, and the lower income we have been living on since my husband became disabled, I had to look for something less expensive, which I thankfully found with Skin Actives. I've been mixing SAS actives into my own cheap hand cream for the past couple of years, with results similar, if not better, than I had with the prohibitively expensive Perricone. But recently, I noticed that my jaw line was starting to become a little less defined, my neck skin was becoming ever-so-slightly looser, and the little lines here and there on my cheeks and forehead and around my eyes were starting to multiply and deepen ever-so-slightly, while my skin was beginning to look a little course and Old-Lady-ish. SO, I decided to try this ready-made, the UV Protection and Repair - 'Be Kind Rewind' Cream.I ordered it about a week ago and, as always, it got here almost faster than seems possible. Today is the 5th day that I've used this amazing BKRW cream, and my husband looked at me this morning and said, "Where are your lines? Your lines are all gone!" "What are you talking about?" I asked him... although I already knew, I had just been gazing at myself in utter amazement in the bathroom mirror, before I'd walked into the living room and asked him to look at my face. I thought something was wrong with my eyes, or the mirror, or maybe it was the lighting.... but, no, it's really true, as my astonished husband said: MY LINES ARE (almost) ALL GONE!!!!!!! Guys ~ I am 57 and 1/2 freaking years old!! I have never had a facelift or a chemical peel nor a lazer treatment, nothing like that! I'm post-menopausal and have never taken HRT, due to the purported health risks. I do take grape seed extract every day, it's a great antioxidant that I firmly believe is a big help in keeping me younger and healthier, I have taken the grape seed extract regularly for about 13 years. I used to smoke, but I gave that up about 8 years ago. I don't particularly eat right, but I drink a lot of water and take a brisk 30 - 45 minute walk outdoors with our dog almost every day.... in the blistering desert sun of New Mexico, with no sunscreen. Unfortunately I haven't found a sunscreen I can use without getting a miserable runny nose and watery eyes. Allergies, ick. Being primarily of Irish decent, with green eyes and reddish blonde hair now going gray, I have about a billion freckles. BUT, I DON'T HAVE ANY WRINKLES ON MY FACE! Well, ok, when I smile the lines reappear, but other than that, there is almost nothing. My jawline is 100% firm again, ditto the skin on my neck. I have a 39-year-old son who looks a lot older than I do! WoW!! And this is after just 5 days of using the UV Repair-Be Kind Rewind.... maybe by next week, when I smile, my skin will stay perfectly smooth!

Freckles to big age spots- now they are gone. I have used Be Kind Rewind for about 2 years. After about 6 months, probably less, I finally got success. All the ads in magazines.. tried them. Now SAS has what I need, the search is over. I was finally, absolutely, certain I had dramatic lightening of my 'cute' freckles that just are not cute at 58. It took a long time to be 'certain' as I dont bother much with makeup, and I just ignore what was there all my life.I Now when I do use a lite concealer, there is no problem covering what remains! What a suprise to be done in a minute and not have to re-coat + touch-up the worst dark spots anymore! I use a very small tube of MAC concealer, now it lasts past a year. I like using makeup- when I dont look overdone! BKRW is just the best addition to SAS Anti Age Cream, which was remarkable by itself. I occasionally use SAS Sea Kelp, but the two daily mainstays are these. If your age spots are not 50 years old, you may get results in 30 days, just dont expect instant success, but YES, expect success! The pretty labels at the department stores are just hype and constant new words and new syllables! Also had luck with the brow serum- after about a month, use continually, its simple. But- at least try this! And add Dream Cream if you need more moisture. But by all means, stop time, rewind!

I use BKR and Twilight cream everyday, and Alpha-Beta exfoliate every once in a while, also have Pumpkin exfoliate (this is gentler than Alpha-Beta, can use it more often) and people comment on my skin being 'flawless' and 'young'..gah! I don't wear powder, foundation sort of make-up anymore (oh and I have two humidifiers in my room- it is good for your skin too!) I think all the chemists in SKA laboratory deserve Nobel Prize. =)

This product is like none I have ever used. It is totally awesome! Just the short time that I have been using it, my skin is brighter, smoother, healthy look to it and it is plumper. One of the area that I have used it on, is where a lesion is trying to form. I put the BKRC on it and that area now looks great! Hard to even spot the lesion now. I will keep using this product along with so many other great creams that I am happy with the results - I had to write about this fabulous cream. Dream Cream great too. Good Luck to all.

I am a long-term SA customer and I'm so happy with this product! I had red, sundamaged skin on my neck and chest for many years, and everything I've tried didn't change it. Within a few weeks of using UV Repair Cream, the redness is almost gone! I can't believe I didn't try it sooner for this! It may never go away completely, but the color is so good now that I'm happy to cover the pink with makeup on special occasions. Once again, THANKS!!!

I noticed results immediately on the sun damaged spots on my upper lip. Nice place for brown spots, eh? They have reduced in size and inflammation, and continue to fade. Hopefully, will be gone with perseverance. I have been using this product for about 3 months.

Am I the only person who thinks this stuff feels like I'm wearing shrink wrap with a lot of undisolved grit? I'll finish the jar, but unless I wake up over the next few weeks with amazing skin--hasn't happened yet--I would not order this again.

This was my first selection to try for a daytime cream from Skin Actives! I've never used anything quite like it. It's stinky and a bit gritty, but gosh darn it, my skin adores it. Dewy, soft, glowing - cliches, but soooooooo accurate. You really only need a very little bit. I use this layered over Every Lipid Serum and that's plenty of emolliency for my dry, sensitive skin. I've burned plenty of times over my life and I'm quite freckled, but don't appear to have any other visible skin damage. I do like thinking that if there is invisible skin damage that this cream is repairing it! I may try another SAS day cream after this one to compare, but honestly this one is better than anything else I've ever ever tried!

I am just so impressed with BKRW cream. Received my order 3 days ago and have been using it twice a day since. So smooth, a little bit of bumpiness/gritiness, but sooo miniscule. I am having faster results than with the Anti Ageing Cream, which I love. I have a 'test' wrinkle on the side of my face and unless I need new glasses, I cannot find it since starting with this cream.............Im stockpiling this!

I have been having great results with the BKRW cream. I have included 2 pictures of my left hand taken 10 days apart. The pictures do not do the results justice. My camera is not too good at picking up minute detail. However, I think you can see that there is some overall improvement in the quality of my skin and the age spots are diminishing. I have noticed that the pores on my face look smaller and my hand looks smoother. I have included a picture of myself as well. It seems a bit weird to send you body parts with out a face! Hanna, I really am happy with the results so far and will continue to use the BKRW cream along with all the other goodies, the Collagen Serum, Anti-age cream and my own concoctions.

I wanted to like this product...but I find the smell so bad I can hardly use it. The grit is also annoying, but even after diluting it slightly with European cream, and adding some essential oil, I still can't stomach the stink of it. Does anyone know what ingredient gives it the strong odor, so I don't accidentally purchase it as an additive ingredient? I was excited about using this product and am disappointed that I can't due to the smell. :(.

10/22/12 After reading the rave reviews here, I was really eager to try this cream. Unfortunately, as others have previously posted it is unusable because of the smell. I know the notes say the strong smell is from sandalwood, but this smells nothing like sandalwood. It's more like an overpowering scent of mucus or infection. As was suggested, I tried to "cut" it with another lotion, but even at 1/16 strength I couldn't stand it and my husband thought I smelled bad...

First impressions: odd color, offputting smell, gritty texture that balls up over serums. Hopefully all of that will be worth it! Will update on results in a month or so :)

I bought this cream a few months ago. It went bad very quickly and I could not use it. It smelled very bad and it had a brown color to it that gave my face a brownish color. It was nasty. Maybe I got a bad batch?

There's a big difference between the old version of this cream and this version of it. Before, I was able to use it and it worked like magic. However, after this new version came out, I cannot use it anymore. After using it I found some red patches on my face, that never occurred after using the old version of this cream. Lastly, the new smell of this cream is terrible. Also, the color of it is weird and you can't go out after using it.
I have never rated an product I have purchased before but this product is so different - from the first use of this cream on my solar keratosis on my lower arms and legs started to fade - after a week the difference is amazing - I am reordering this because I truely believe that after continued use they will almost disappear

Okay, Okay!! So people complain about the smell of this product and I have to agree that it does not smell great...but...if you persevere you will be astounded by the efficacy of UV Repair Cream. After using this for the briefest time I have enjoyed smoother skin, smaller pores and I am pretty convinced that the fine lines around my eyes and across my forehead are diminishing. I haven't seen much change in my age spots...yet!! I found that after allowing the cream to be absorbed by my freshly cleansed skin for about ten minutes and then following with a lightly scented lotion helped with the odor. Truthfully, the more I use this cream, the less offensive I find the odor. Be brave and be strong for we have been brainwashed by cosmetic companies for far too long to believe that something has to be highly perfumed to work.

Another great product from skinactives! I've heard it smells awful but it didn't bother me at all.
  • Author: Jennifer
I think this is a great product. I used the entire tube of booster and didn't find the smell offensive at all. I think the scent comes from the cumin seed oil in the booster, but it isn't that strong. I would say that the scent of this product reminds me of the powdered rub I put on baked chicken - kind of a spicy herbal scent. I was expecting worse, frankly, after reading the reviews. I think we're used to the stuff from the department store counters with all that artificial fragrance. This is a terrific product and really does improve the texture of your skin. It really has helped to even out the color of my skin - especially where I have some roseacea. It is a little bit gritty but I added a teeny bit of ELS and that really helped. If you find the color offensive, try using a bit less. I have medium-golden skin and don't find that it discolors my skin. You only need a little bit - with the booster it spreads really easily.

Week 1: First thing I noticed is that it calms mild redness and irritation. My face looks fresher after 1 week. Week 3: Most of my brown spots are faded and dark raised bumps/moles have flattened and faded, too. Week 4: Surprise! Oil splatter marks on my face, arm and neck from one cooking incident a month before I started using the UV Repair Cream are gone. A 5 year old oven burn mark on my hand looks significantly improved, too. Week 7: Several of my brown spots are gone. Had a nasty cold sore outbreak on my lips, cheeks, nose, and under eye. The UV Repair Cream + Collagen Serum calms the itching. The sores on my cheeks healed quickly and only a faint mark is left. I took a break using Twilight this week. Week 8: Since I stopped using Twilight the fading of brown spots seems to have slowed down as well. I

Been using this cream for about six months now. Had not noticed any "off" scent. This stuff has lightened up my old, reddish acne scars which have been around for about 30+ years. Hopefully in another six months they will have entirely faded. The pits are still there though.

I wanted to like this more than I did. I should have taken before and after pictures so I could judge better, but I used this on my face for 90 days and saw only a general evening out of my complexion. That said, I loved the texture and the smell, and had no negative issues with it. It did not do anything to my sun spots or acne marks. I may try the TCA peel instead.

On Jonatans recommendation I ordered this cream with the booster. At first smell I thought this was going to be a challenge to get used to as I had added the complete booster kit and if was very ''fragrant''. Up until age 40 I was the first one on the beach and the last one off in October. Now at age 67 you can imagine what's going on. Started using the cream about 9 weeks ago. For the first 5 or 6 weeks the only thing I noticed was that I was now enjoying the scent. Now however my skin has radically improved, especially on my neck. What used to look like an old iguana now looks like 30 year old skin. The texture, elasticity and tone has all been renewed. Am I excited? I'm shocked! I am also using the serum kit, dmae serum, vit a cream and anti-aging cream. Probably averages about $40.00 monthly. Considering I have tried at least 30 different lines, some offering products at $150.00 an ounce and none of them worked, not even a little bit I am crazy excited. Thank you skinactives for changing my skin and my life, Glen

Can someone advise whether the Brightening Cream or, this BKRW is best for aging spots? I am 64, and had good results with this but got neglectful and my spots returned. I do use Anti-Aging Cream and Dream Cream and your latest Mitochondria booster. And etc!
Sometimes more than 2 layers is too much. And also, which product should go on first is very helpful too. Thanks!

This would be perfect except for 3 things - the consistency is gritty and a bit unpleasant, the cream has a slightly unpleasant smell, and after it's applied my face feels tight and dry and gets dirty-looking spots of grit.
On the other hand, my skin does look good after using this cream. It does seem to help with skin tone and sun damage.
Sometimes after too much sun here in southern Spain, I have little red pinpoints on my skin. This clears those up. I just can't wear it during the day as it makes my face look dirty.
