Seakelp (Lactobacillus/Kelp Ferment Filtrate) Bioferment, Porphyridium Polysaccharide, Fucoxanthin, Astaxanthin.

Please note that we use preservatives Phenoxyethanol (and) Caprylyl Glycol (and) Sorbic Acid during the manufacturing process. Some of the preservative remains in the finished product. Contact us for additional information.

Our Sea Kelp Coral supplies a complete nutrient medium to moisturize skin and scalp. The substrate for fermentation is kelp, a sea macroalga (Phaeophyta). Fermentation makes the cell contents of this alga readily available to our skin and scalp. This maximizes its moisturizing properties, as well as making nutrients required by the skin available. The ferment also has a calming effect that can reduce redness, itchiness and irritation.*

The bioferment is rich in fucoidan, carrageenan, algin, minerals, and many active chemicals. It also provides minerals like iodine, copper, molybdate, magnesium, and others required as cofactors in enzymatic reactions of lipid metabolism and energy conversion. This product can be used as a base for many of our water soluble actives. Sea Kelp Bioferment is probably our favorite ingredient because it has so many uses.*

In our Sea Kelp Coral we use Laminaria as substrate for fermentation. Laminaria grows in the sublittoral zone of the northern Atlantic Ocean. We enrich the bioferment with extra fucoxanthin and fucoidans, also extracted from Laminaria.

Fucoxanthin is a pigment present in Phaeophyta (brown algae) that may protect skin from photo-aging caused by UV.*

Fucoidans are sulfated polysaccharides with structures that depend on the plant source and growing conditions. Applied to the skin, fucoidan will increase the density of collagen bundles, decrease activity of proteases (enzymes that break down dermal proteins), increase scavenging of free radicals, and increase cell proliferation. These effects would be mediated through increased expression of ß1-integrin and may also help with wound healing.*

Porphyridium, an extracellular polysaccharide produced by a red alga has sulfate groups attached. It also has non-reducing terminal D-xylopyranosyl and galactopyranosyl residues. It is known that this polysaccharide has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, and the xylitol residues may be responsible in part for the anti-inflammatory properties.*

Astaxanthin gives our Sea Kelp Coral its color. Astaxanthin is similar to some pigments that give coral exoskeletons their color. This is not just a similarity in color but also in chemistry. Most corals obtain the majority of their energy and nutrients from photosynthetic unicellular algae called zooxanthellae that live within the coral's tissue, and these algae also produce pigments that protect the coral from the sun.  Because of its particular molecular structure, astaxanthin serves as an extremely powerful antioxidant. It has a very effective quenching effect against singlet oxygen, a powerful scavenging ability for lipid and free radicals, and effectively breaks peroxide chain reactions. Carotenoids are effective at low oxygen concentrations, complementing the activity of vitamin E which is effective at higher oxygen concentrations. Astaxanthin has also been shown to enhance and modulate the immune system. The antioxidant and immunomodulating activities, in combination or separately, may reduce the acute inflammatory reaction in the skin and tissue just beneath it that follows excessive exposure to UV radiation.*

When I first purchased this item I attempted to add it to my face cream, however the results weren't pretty. The sea kelp bioferment has a gel-like texture and doesnt mix well with creams. I also found that leaving this product on without washing it off left a film on my face with an unpleasant feeling. I now use this product as a soothing mask after a peel or exfolliaton, and it seems to work nicely, so long as i wash it off after 5-10 minutes. Also seemed to increase circulaton to my face, I'd avoid using it around the eyes. (Response - seakelp mixes in really well with creams it also works extremely well as a mask that can be rinsed off after 20 minutes or so. To use it on its own without filming add 25%-50% water.)

I have read other reviews which say that the user doesn't like the tight dry feeling this product leaves on the skin and that it doesn't mix with other creams. I love this product!! At first, I was a little unsure of the feeling it left on my skin, but after using it a few days, I saw such a difference in the texture of my skin. First, it gives my skin a wonderful rosy cast. Its so hydrating too. I just leave it on my skin without rinsing, and after a minute or 2, I apply a cream on top of it. I've also noticed that along my hairline, there is new hair growth. This product is also great for breakouts and eczema. I get dry patches under my eye brows and on my forehead, but not anymore. Secondly, within one week, I had several people comment about my skin. How vibrant and young I was looking. This is an awesome product that I will use forever!

This is really a interesting product. I tried using it 3 different ways: The first way was after I cleansed by face, and applied it as I normally would a moisturzer. It felt really cool and soothing going on. When it begins to dry, it has instant firming effect. I would recommend applying it in upward strokes to ensure you get that "lift" effect. It was really tightening my skin because I could feel my blood pulsating in my face! It did leave a whiteish film so I would recommend it be used as a mask this way and washed off. The next way I used it was with the anti-oxidant booster oil Boy that stuff is amazing! It did turn the gel red, but that is because of pomegranate and rosehip seed oil. I put this on before I went to bed. The next day my skin was smoother and brighter! This morning I tried it another way. I mixed it in with my daily moisturzer. The best way to do that is to put a little of your daily cream in the palm of your hands and then put the gel in the palm of your hands and rub them together. It mixes best this way. I would not add it to your moisturizer. I applyed it this way and today my skin looks and feel beautiful! This is great stuff that can be used in various ways depending on your personal needs!

I love this stuff. I started to used it on my scalp after washing my hair at first then after a week, I added the antibooster sample that came with it. I noticed that my hair is much hydrated even without conditioner and less falling hair.

I cannot rave about Sea Kelp Ultramarine enough! I wash my face with it right out of the jar.....leaves your skin so soft and radiant! I mix a dab with my shampoo when I wash my hair.......WOW! I don't need any other products (I have straight, fine, color-treated hair) because the Ultramarine makes my hair shiney, healthy and full of's amazing!

OH THANK YOU! Three years ago I developed patches of extremely dry itchy skin on one leg. Last year the condition took over my other leg as well. I scratch all day. I scratch at night to the point of bleeding. The last winter the condition progressed to the point I am causing myself scarring--Red rough scaly patches of raw skin. I received my Ultramarine Special a few days ago, mixed it with 1 part hyaluronic serum, 1 part base creme and 1 part Ultramarine then applied it this morning to bleeding sore raw legs. So far, 12 hours later, -- No itching. No pain. Soft legs. No redness. No bumps. And the skin is getting smoother before my eyes. I will be insisting all my clients, especially those with eczema, dermatitis and so on, use this product. I will be using it in every single facial treatment I give. I will be using it for burn clients and and cancer clients. For tattoos. For acne. At home, in my bath, my hair, for my teenager with dry sensitive acneic skin. I have applied it to my husband's cracked hands ( he is a canoe guide). I snuck up on him and applied the Ultramarine. It is the first product he has ever let touch his skin. He was astounded it went on like water and absorbed instantly. The ancient cracks in his hands are healing. I tried to get some other cremes on him but he will only let me use "that seaweed stuff." I will use it everywhere and for everything I can think of. I am amazed and thankful and grateful. You should win a prize for this creation Hannah. Gratefully, Robyn Hall.

This stuff is the most amazing leave in conditioner I've come across. My hair is quite dry & frizzy (I live in the tropics). It's also a little damaged from lightening it. Since I stopped using silicones & regular hair conditioners (which were always too heavy & made my hair limp), nothing has worked as well as this. My hair is so soft, & manageable. I have been looking for a product like this for ages.

I use this directly on my face as a mask after glycolic acid wipes-soothing and smoothing. Also use to mix with dmae and then add to facial cream. Love this stuff

I was excited to try this product because I have sensitive skin and this was supposed to be good for eczema as well. No! I decided to use it as a mask and it sucked All of the life and moisture out of my face and I broke out in a rash that I'm still working on a month later. Do yourself a favor and do a patch test first before diving in like me, don't be fooled by the allure of natural products because what has worked well for others ( as this is a popular product) does not work well for all. And if you have eczema be extremely careful with any product that claims to help the condition as this product put my eczema into overdrive when I haven't had a break out in years.

I seriously will never be without this again. My fave ways to use it: a little bit in my hair after a shower - it keeps my hair clean longer and gives it more body; also, I mix it with some shea mousse, rosehip seed oil, coconut endosperm, yeast beta glucan and antiox booster to make a face mask that I use after an alpha-beta peel or pumpkin enzyme peel. It feels cool, refreshing and smooth and makes my skin feel dewy and lush afterwards. I'm also trying to convince my husband to try a bit in his long, curly viking beard. An amazing product worth every penny. I'm so thankful to have found SAS!

I really like this as a hair gel.. it doesn't leave a build up and it holds super good. This makes my hair soft and shiny and the stiffness is gone as soon as you comb it out

I LOVE THIS STUFF! There is a noticeable difference when I run out in my skin! My hair line even looks awesome now!

I am SO happy this is now for sale! I have had problems with hyperpigmentation on the sides of my face for years. This is the only thing that ever made it go away, and it only took TWO DAYS. I don't ever want to be without this product again. THANK YOU so much for this amazing product!!

Love this stuff! I am super sensitive and this doesn't cause me any problems. I mixed it with vit c and ferulic acid at night and I woke up in the morning and my skin just looked a little more even and brighter. Vit c on its own wasn't really doing it for me maybe b/c it can be slightly irritating. I even had a zit and in the morning it was less big and red with this little mixture. I've only been doing this combo a few days but I hope things get better. I have stubborm hyperpigmentation on my cheeds! I wonder if I can mix this with peptides and/or vitamin A of which I can use only sparingly. thanks for a unique and cool product!

I was filling the tractor's tank when I touched the exhaust with my left arm and burned it (about a 3 inch dia). I used this on the burn (which was blistered) and not only did it feel better, it cleared up with no scarring or itching. What a amazing product! I will be ordering more!

I order this regularly since I first tried it out as a left over from the beginner's formulation kit. This is wonderful to add to homemade toners. I use vegetable glycerin, rosewater, & sea kelp coral for an amazing toner/refresher spray. My husband uses it constantly & will comment if there is a delay when I go to remake it, after we run out.

I just bought my second jar of this stuff. Last night the skin around my eyes were itching, hot and sore. Put a small amount of the sea kelp coral on the offending area and within minutes everything had calmed down. Used it on my hair and honest to Pete, it smoothed out the frizzies and gave it lift. Also use it in most of my DIY recipes. Thank you for this product.

I love the consistency of this product! It is so fun to use, and it is really easy to mix other additives to it. It rubs right in and doesn't leave your face sticky or anything. It's a really nice gel that feels super yummy for your skin.

This is one product I would love to give a review on. Although I have tried others from SAS. This is by far the best, when mixed with other actives for acne. I used for my hair after a short hair cut. My hair has grown passed the end of earlobes in maybe 1 month of using it.

This is a very versatile product. Use it on a clean face as a primer, or mix it 1:1 with your moisturizer or foundation. I also use it mixed in with my hair balm (one part hair balm to one part sea kelp) and my hair is just beautiful! Winters here in the Midwest always makes my otherwise wavy hair very dry and otherwise lifeless. The sea kelp makes it extra shiny, soft, with no fly-aways or static.

I notice that my skin is softer, and the dry patches that come every winter are just about gone. I ordered a 2 oz. jar about a week ago and today I am ordering the 8 oz. bottle! It is that versatile so you will want more to mix it with moisturizers, hair products, shampoo, etc., or to use straight.

when I use this on a regular basis on my eyes I notice my eyelashes grow a little longer and fuller. Also when used on my sunburns the skin heals faster. Jelly-like texture.
  • Author: holly phrost
I find this a disappointment. I much preferred the old formulation. I used it under my eyes at bedtime and it kept them from puffing up by drying like a mask. This stuff doesn't dry in a taut way - and there is nothing offered to replace the product they removed! Without the Ultramarine my eyes are baggy again. Not cool. They had a product that several of my friends used to help with just that problem, and then they took it away, without replacing it. A let down.

Dry and tight, pills and flakes.
This is a pass for me and why I am not a fan of the ready made creams that contain it.
