Hair Care Serum

Our Hair Care Serum combines nourishing actives for the hair and our Keratinocyte Growth Factor (KGF).

We started with powerful active ingredients known to help promote hair growth in both men and women. Actives such as Saw Palmetto and Grape Seed Proanthocyanidins were added to help with poor scalp micro-circulation, follicle atrophy caused by dihydrotestosterone, and follicle aging. Then full nutrition was provided to compensate for loss of nutrients to the scalp brought about by poor blood irrigation. Finally, our Keratinocyte Growth Factor (KGF), also known as FGF-7, heparin-binding growth factor-7 (HBGF-7), and a member of the fibroblast growth factor family, completes the serum. KGF has been found to stimulate hair growth.

Additional information for KGF can be found here:

This serum is also available as our Brow and Lash Serum to lengthen the lashes, packaged in a convenient applicator tube.

Please give about two months to see the effects. *Note: This serum works for most people, however, if there is a different underlying cause for hair loss, such as a medical condition, the serum might not be effective.

KGF: This protein (19,000 molecular weight) is also known as FGF-7 and heparin-binding growth factor-7 (HBGF-7). KGF is a member of the fibroblast growth factor family and was found to stimulate hair growth. Cells that respond to KGF do so because they have receptors on the cell membrane that recognize the factor (which has been produced by cells that may be near or far from the target cell). The binding of the growth factor to the receptor initiates a cascade of molecular events that will eventually lead to cell division, among other effects. We make our own growth factor using biotechnology.

Please ask about special wholesale prices. Please note that our growth factors are sold for use in cosmetics only.

Additional information on KGF can be found here:

Sea kelp: Contains complete nutrient supply and moisture. The substrate for fermentation is a sea macroalgae that is rich in caragenaan, algin, minerals, and many active chemicals. Fermentation makes the cell contents of this algae readily available to your skin, moisturizing it and providing the nutrients required to synthesize new components.

Carnitine: L-Carnitine and derivatives, like acetyl carnitine, carry activated fatty acids through the mostly impermeable inner mitochondrial membrane, allowing the respiration of fatty acids. The activated fatty acid (Acyl-CoA) cannot pass through the membrane but there is a special translocator for Acyl-carnitine. Once carnitine releases the fatty acid it carries (a process involving a tranferase), carnitine can go out again and take up another activated fatty acid. L-carnitine is a derivative of the amino acid lysine, and it is named after the material it was first isolated from, meat (carnus in Latin), in 1905. It was first believed to be a vitamin, and called vitamin BT, but humans can synthesize L-carnitine. Although, under certain conditions and depending on the diet, the demand for L-carnitine may exceed an individual's capacity to synthesize it, making it a "conditionally essential nutrient."

Grape seed proanthocyanidins: Derived from the seeds of both red and white grapes, grape (Vitis vinifera) seed extract (containing 95% proanthocyanidins) is one of nature's most powerful antioxidants and a major free radical scavenger. These flavonoids protect capillary walls and inhibit the enzymes that break down collagen (collagenase), hyaluronic acid (hyaluronidase), and elastin (elastase). Proanthocyanidins also help promote tissue elasticity, help heal injuries, reduce swelling and edema (anti-inflammatory), restore collagen, and improve peripheral circulation. Proanthocyanidins also prevent bruising, strengthen weak blood vessels, reduce histamine production, and promote hair growth.

Niacinamide: Niacinamide is a vitamin, but even when following a normal healthy diet, topical application of niacinamide will result in increased synthesis of collagen, keratin, involucrin, and flaggrin. Topical application of niacinamide will decrease pruritus and inflammation, decrease oiliness, alleviate atopic dermatitis, and decrease UV-induced skin cancers. These are just a few of the beneficial effects of topical application of niacinamide to the skin, and it would be suspicious that there are so many were it not for the crucial role of this chemical in human metabolism.

Soy isoflavones: Isoflavones are polyphenolic compounds capable of exerting estrogen-like effects, i.e. they will bind (weakly) to the estrogen receptors on the surface of your skin cells. Cells in human males also have receptors for estrogen. This quantity of soy isoflavones will be enough to help with hair growth without leading to unwanted side effects.

Saw palmetto: Saw palmetto (Serenoa repens) sterols have been shown to inhibit 5-alpha-reductase activity (the enzyme responsible for conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone) and to inhibit binding of dihydrotestosterone to the cytosolic androgen receptor.

Gently massage serum into damp scalp nightly after a bath or shower. Allow to sit overnight and rinse in the morning.

Positive effects should be noted within six weeks of first use, although results will vary on an individual basis.

I've been using this product for about 2 1/2 months now. Whether or not its causing new hair growth, I am unsure...I see new growth around my hairline, but that could be attributed to the sea kelp bioferment I use on my face. Nevertheless, my hair looks fuller and healthier. I use it after shampooing and style as usual. It will definitely give your hair a lift at the roots, which I like. I will buy this product again.

I have been using the KGF serum for hair more or less twice per day for a few weeks now. I have also incorporated Sea Kelp Bioferment into my routine as a styling product and conditioner. For at least one year I have had what seems to be ceaseless shedding. I shed when I shower and find my hairs throughout the day on my computer keyboard, all over my workplace, on my clothes, and in my car. Oddly enough, the shedding has finally decreased. I am now losing 1 to 5 hairs when I shower as opposed to a large mass which I refuse to count. I have not noticed a trail of hair everywhere I go. I am approaching this with a healthy skepticism. People with hair loss must have some degree of skepticism, you wouldn't believe some of the things that women with hair loss buy into our of sheer desperate hope. Recently, a woman I know spent $1500 at a hair restoration clinic on a kit containing laser comb (retails for $189), shampoo, conditioner, "follicle spray" ( with copper peptides), thickening powder and Rogaine. It hurt my heart, it really did. It was all of her savings, and she bought it because they told her to. I certainly don't put Skinactives in the same category as the people selling that $1500 kit, but I still have to be somewhat skeptical, because I don't know if my hair loss can be helped or not. No one ever really knows. Nonetheless, my shedding has decreased. Decreasing shedding is my number one goal. Even if I don't experience regrowth, if I am able to keep shedding at bay, I will consider this serum a success for me. I have never used a hair loss product before. Rogaine is not an option that I feel comfortable with because of the potential side effects and the fact that you must continue using it forever to keep your hair. Skinactives is the first hair loss product I have been willing to plunk down cash for or apply to my scalp. That's a testament to your company and the confidence you inspire in your customers. By the way, Sea Kelp in the hair? I recommend it highly. It has helped my hair texture immensely.

This stuff works! Although I still shed the amount is SO much less. I use it with the Sea Kelp so am not sure if it's a combo effect....but I will keep it up!

My hair has sadly been thinning up front for years because of PCOS, made worse after I had a baby last year. I've been using this nightly for a few weeks now. I'm not a huge fan of how it feels in my hair, which is why I only use it at night. I notice that there are extra little hairs along my hairline, growing longer even. I also feel like I can see less scalp through my hair. I started taking medication for my condition more recently, but I will continue with this hair treatment as well. Thank you for helping with my self confidence.

I bought it for my brother, and I am ordering second bottle for him. He said it doen't make hair re-grow (yet). However, he noticed that it prevents from getting worse, worth to try.

I have been using almost three weeks now and have noticed a decrease in hair loss in the shower and during the day. I have been using once a day in the evenings not twice a day as instructed. I will definitely buy again.

I have been using this product for 5 months now and have seen no results. I think my hair is thinner now than when i started. The first bottle i got was purchased by a friend as a gift. Wish there were guidelines on how much to use. I use about 5 drops a night and then massage into my scalp which seems to provide good coverage. I just ordered and received a second bottle, to which i also ordered and added one vial of the KGF to see if maybe a stronger version would make a difference. I also use Nioxin and had really hoped this would help as i'd seen limited results with that product too. I will update this review if i see better results after the 2nd bottle.

This worked great for both my husband and me. I used it on my head and on my lashes and brows. My hair stopped shedding almost completely, while my lashes were noticeably longer and fuller in about a month. (I compared with an old close-up photo of my lashes, plus, they now hit my glasses!) My husband also reduced his hair thinning with this. His progress was gradual, but noticeable. We're in our 50's, and this stuff worked great for us :)

This is an amazing product for hair loss! My hair looks healthier, fuller, and the shedding is down to almost nothing.

I have used this for about a year. I find it is great for maintaining what you have, and giving a boost to areas where hair is finer, but it won't put hair on a billiard ball. You must have active follicles for it to stimulate. I also use it on my eyebrows and find it helps maintain their thickness as well. All I can say is try it, use it each night religiously and massage it in gently for about 30 second so you don't break your hair (a rule to follow especially if you have fine hair). It will not change the character of your hair (fine hair will still be fine hair). It's not a miracle so you won't see instant results. It will work with your hair's natural growth cycle so you need to use it for at least 4-6 months to begin to see what it is doing. Compared to other hair serums (most of which don't do a thing) it is very well priced so I would suggest trying it for a year to see the complete benefit as that seems to be the length of time it takes to see the maximum results.

This stuff is amazing. I struggle with breakage or loss around my forehead and temples. It leaves me with spiky little hairs. Within a few weeks,I noticed the hair was getting longer wherever I applied it. It's a great feeling,

I wonder if this can be left on for days instead of just overnite? The former version allowed this. And my thinning/fine hair did not become oily, not even at the roots. is there any downside to leaving it on for days not hours.

(Yes it is ok to leave on for days if you do not wish to wash your hair sooner.)
