The skin dermis is made mostly of extracellular matrix, and the decrease in the proteins and polysaccharides that constitute this matrix is responsible for a good part of the decrease in skin thickness that occurs as we age. Matrikines, small peptides formed when the dermis proteins are damaged and degraded, are cell messengers able to regulate the sequence of events required for skin repair and wound healing. The collagen derived peptides in Dermagen will act as matrikins, increasing the activity of enzymes involved in healing, leading to increased synthesis of collagen and other skin molecules. Hyaluronic acid is a polysaccharide that makes a good part of our dermis matrix. External hyaluronic acid fulfills two purposes: because of its high water retention it will protect the skin, and its hydrolysis by carbohydrases will provide monosaccharides for the skin to synthesize its own hyaluronic acid.

NOTE: Amino acids are the subunits that make up a protein. Amino acids can join each other in a peptide bond: two amino acids joined in a peptide bond constitute a dipeptide, three a tripeptide, a five a pentapeptide, etc. A protein can be made up of just one or several polypeptides.

Keep this aqueous solution in the refrigerator (not the freezer) until needed! Each tube is enough for about 16 fl oz of cream or lotion at approximately 2% concentration (10 mL in 480 mL cream).

Use in your favorite cream or add to our Canvas Base Cream or a Sea Kelp Bioferment base. Use a transfer pipet to measure smaller volumes: 5 mL for 8 fl oz, 2.5 mL for 4 fl oz, 1.25 mL for 2 fl oz. The amounts are just guidelines, using more or less is perfectly safe - though less will reduce effect and more may not increase effect. Experiment and see what works for you!
