DMAE Serum 4%

SKU 37

A ready to use serum containing DMAE, the state of the art skin tightening active found in retail brand products such as Perricone Neuropeptide Facial Serum Prep, without the hefty price tag.

Use our skin tightening DMAE Serum to minimize fine lines and wrinkles for a more youthful appearance. The base of this serum is similar to our Marine Nutrient Serum, harnessing the nourishing benefits of our Sea Kelp Ultramarine.

Although this serum might be great for special occasions or other short-term uses, we recommend Collagen Serum for long-term use.

Note: DMAE contains a lot of salt, therefore it has a tendency to dry the skin. If you already have very dry skin please do not use this serum, or be sure that you use a moisturizer to keep skin healthy.

Apply a thin layer to clean skin twice daily to tighten skin.

Distilled Water (Aqua), Lactobacillus/Kelp Ferment Filtrate, Porphyridium Extract, Laminaria Japonica Extract, Arthrospira Extract, Sodium PCA, DMAE Bitartrate (L), Bisabolol (alpha), Coconut (Cocos nucifera) Endosperm, Hydrolyzed Collagen, Hyaluronic Acid, Guaizulene, Propylene Glycol, Diazolidinyl Urea, Methylparaben, Propylparaben.

In the May 2015 Newsletter, Dr. Sivak gave some more information on the controversy around DMAE. Here is what she had to say, "DMAE improves the firmness of the skin and helps reduce the visual appearance of sagging skin, although the mechanism of action is unknown. It is an amine-based alcohol, a precursor to the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, present in nerve tissue in small amounts and more abundant in fish. DMAE acts as a free radical scavenger due to the high electron content of its nitrogen atom. Once phosphorylated, DMAE is incorporated into the membrane of cells. In addition, DMAE is an immediate precursor to choline, which is involved in cell membrane biosynthesis.

At SAS we sell DMAE as DMAE bitartrate, a salt of DMAE (DMAE is strongly alkaline and hazardous to ship and manipulate), so take into account that the actual percentage of DMAE by weight in the salt is about 37%, i.e., 100 grams of DMAE bitartrate contain 37 grams of DMAE. To make 4oz (120 mL) of serum containing 3% DMAE, you will need about 10 gm DMAE bitartrate (the rest will be the tartaric acid).

In the last few years, many people have been using DMAE. An article was published in a scientific journal that should not have passed the reviewers, but it did. Like all scary information about chemicals present in our daily life, the information was amplified by the social media using the internet and it became a big event. It should not have, because dramatic results that contradict decades of results should be vetted carefully. After all the foam dissipated, everybody went back to using DMAE. I always had mixed feeling about DMAE because its mechanism of action is not understood, i.e. we do not know how it increases skin firmness. But, until somebody comes up with better information, we have to assume that DMAE used by our clients (up to 4% in a compatible serum) is perfectly fine."

Sea Kelp Ultramarine: Fucus vesiculosus is a sea macroalgae rich in caragenaan, algin, minerals and many active chemicals. Fermentation makes the cell contents of this algae readily available to your skin, moisturizing it and providing the nutrients required to synthesize new components. Fucus vesiculosus is fermented by the same microorganisms that convert milk into yogurt.

DMAE: Dimethylaminoethanol (DMAE) seems to improve the firmness of the skin and to help reduce the visual appearance of sagging skin (cutis laxa). DMAE is an amine-based alcohol, a precursor to the neurotransmitter acetylcholine. DMAE is present in nerve tissue in small amounts and is more abundant in fish. DMAE acts as a free radical scavenger due to the high electron content of its nitrogen atom. Once phosphorylated, DMAE is incorporated into the membrane of cells, protecting against cell membrane protein cross-linking. In addition, DMAE is an immediate precursor to choline, which is involved in cell membrane biosynthesis. DMAE facial gel, applied daily for 16 weeks, has been shown to be safe and effective in mitigating forehead lines and periorbital fine wrinkles, improving lip shape and fullness, and improving the overall appearance of aging skin.

alpha Bisabolol: This natural chemical is partly responsible for the anti-inflammatory effect of chamomile essential oil, but will not lead to sensitization or allergic reactions. Useful in the treatment of acne, it may also help with rosacea. The light fragrance of the serum is due to the bisabolol in it.

Sodium PCA: This derivative of glutamic acid (an amino acid) is very hygroscopic, i.e. absorbs large quantities of water. It is one of the natural components of "natural moisturizing factor", which skin produces to slow down water loss to the environment. It's full name is sodium-2-pyrrolidone carboxylate.

Coconut Endosperm: Coconut endosperm (Cocos nucifera) dried by lyophilization (i.e. low temperature to avoid loss of activity) is a perfect "skin food." Because the coconut embryo is so isolated from the outside world by that thick cover, everything it needs to grow and develop has to come from inside the fruit. Everything (amino acids, sugars, vitamins, growth factors - like kinetin) are in the liquid called coconut water or milk. Experimental data point toward kinetin acting as a strong antioxidant in vitro and in vivo, not just in plants but also in animals. Kinetin has been found to inhibit oxidative and glycoxidative protein damage generated in vitro, and protects DNA against oxidative damage mediated by the Fenton reaction. Protein glycosylation is one of the many factors in skin aging, and this could be one of the mechanisms by which kinetin helps delay skin aging.

Sodium hyaluronate: Animals and some bacteria can make this long chain of N-acetyl-D-glucosamine alternating with glucuronic acid. The job of this glycosaminoglycan is to stabilize the intercellular (between cells) space, particularly in connective tissue. Unfortunately, our dermis loses thickness as we age (in part because we lose hylauronic acid) so it is a good idea to stop this thinning of the dermis. Because of its water holding capacity, having this active in your creams, lotions, gels, or serums will help keep your skin moist. Also, hyaluronidase in the skin will break it down and the sugars released will be used to make new hyaluronic acid in the dermis.

Natural Active Peptides: This is a mix of small size (below 5,000 MW) peptides derived from marine collagen. They will help with moisturizing, but mostly they will supply your skin with amino acids that will be used in collagen synthesis. They are also likely to work as "matrikins" making your skin cells synthesize new collagen just like when the skin is damaged.

This serum does what it says, it really works on lines and wrinkles immediately, and my mum, grandma, and I love this! Instant lifting, and works great under sunscreens and make up. Also good for acne skin as it dries skin a little bit.

Hi there. I'm new to skin actives. Very excited about finding these products. When I received my first order, I think I was little overzealous to get started. I broke out in a rash where I put the DMAE serum. I since heard from Hannah that the product is not really for dry skin. Does anyone know what other product whether in cream of serum form is suitable for dry skin and will still have tightening properties?

I use it during the day, underneath the Mitochondria cream. It gives me moisture and nutrition and calms my skin.

I don't have issues with sagging skin but I can feel this product working. DMAE is well known and contained in many beauty products. This is a decent product for those who have sagging skin-anywhere on their body.

I don't usually leave reviews but I have to say this is my favorite serum and really firms and lifts right away. I have done away with all the other lifting brands I've tried and use this exclusively. I don't use it in my chin area which tends to be dry and starts to flake if I use too much.

I bought this for my mom who is in her 50s & she LOVES it. She says people compliment her on her skin when she's using it. She doesn't have a lot of fine lines, but rather, "loose skin" on the face from aging (ie. jowels & under eye bags). This tightens her skin up & gives her a glow.

Another SAS winner! Tightens my face, helps conceal fine wrinkles.

love this product although I overused it when I first started-because of the great results & broke out in pimples. Although more is not always better I've ordered the large bottle for all over use.

I should have read the fine print. This contains parabens - there are many preservatives out there without parabens that could be used for this product.

The serum is very fragrant- so I won't be using it- I didn't think the ingredients listed would be-- wrong

I haven't noticed any difference except for dry skin and therefore a much faster turn-over rate. It will cause a great deal of my skin to shed/renew from my face every few days. Not a bad thing in itself, buy it is really just due to the salt/dryness. Maybe I am too young to see a benefit, does not seem to tighten at all for me. Anyone else notice this?

I purchased all 4 serums. Antioxidant, DMAE, Collagen and Lipid. Over a 3 weeks time frame, I have used all 4 consistently but especially collagen and dmae. My skin is glowing!!! Surface winkles are gone and skin is lifted big time!

40yrs old, 6 children and 1 Grand child. I live in New Zealand and the NZ sun is the worst in the world due to our lack of ozone protection, so I do have the beginning signs of sun damage from being out on the boat fishing. In saying that I have used the same organic skin care line for the past 5 years and people still think Im 26-27yrs. After doing some research I decided I wanted to try some new actives so I could see if I could remain looking that age for the next 10yrs (Fingers crossed)!! Stumbled across SAS and just received my first order today and excitedly cleaned, toned and dried my skin and first applied the DMAE serum, used my blow dryer to dry it faster and then applied the Collagen Serum over top. 20mins later I look in the mirror and I swear I look a year younger 25 maybe? My skin had an amazing glow, firmer, yet supple and my pores seemed to be visibly smaller. So, SAS Im impressed so far and will continue to update my reviews with continued use and as I try the other serums. Thanks so much!!

This serum is great for tightening up your pores. I had read about a Botox cream in the works for minimizing pores, but I will stick with this & the collagen cream.

Love the tightness this serum provides but can't tolerate the pimples. Applying a very small amount made no difference - still looked like I was going through puberty. Not for me.

I love this serum. Haven't experienced any drying of skin, mind you I use collagen serum, uv repair cream, vit a cream, and anti aging cream....kinda obsessive I know but my skin has completely changed. The uv repair cream has taken 30 years off the look of my neck...amazing to say the least...took only about 3 months. The dmae serum has tightened my mini jowls completely and the vit a cream is truly a favorite, I swear I can feel it working when I apply it. All in all, the finest skin care products on the planet. Thank you everyone at skinactives.
