Astaxanthin is a carotenoid, i.e. a carotene-like chemical. Carotenoids, and especially astaxanthin, protect cells against oxidation by 1) quenching singlet oxygen and dissipating the energy as heat and 2) scavenging free radicals to prevent and terminate chain reactions.

Due to its particular molecular structure, astaxanthin serves as an extremely powerful antioxidant. It has a very effective quenching effect against singlet oxygen, a powerful scavenging ability for lipid and free radicals and effectively breaks peroxide chain reactions. Carotenoids are effective at low oxygen concentrations, complementing the activity of vitamin E which is effective at higher oxygen concentrations. Natural astaxanthin has been shown to be a potent antioxidant over 500 times stronger than vitamin E and 10 times stronger than beta-carotene. Astaxanthin has also been shown to enhance and modulate the immune system. These effects in combination or separately may reduce the acute inflammation reaction of the skin and tissue just beneath the skin that follows excessive exposure to UV radiation.

Beginning users should look to use our ready made ELS or Antioxidant Booster, as they both include Astaxanthin. Experienced users can add a small amount to any Cream or Serum, limited only by the strong red color. Use as much as you like as long as the color is acceptable to you. Astaxanthin can also be used during the daytime under your sunscreen for extra protection from sunlight.

  This is the strongest Antioxidant available in the world......seriously. Do some research and you'll understand. I took it as an internal supplement and it helped me heal after a terrible accident. But, as far as using it topically, I haven't purchased it yet for my creams but it is on my list. I'm sure the quality is as great as the other products offered here.

  Astaxanthin is a very powerful antioxidant, both externally and internally. About 2 months ago, I started taking 16mg every day (8mg morning/ 8mg evening) for endurance and joint pain from running. Not only do I feel absolutely incredible now, but my skin also looks healthier. I’ve also noticed an improvement in my night vision and mental clarity.
  
  I recently squeezed the contents of two Astaxanthin capsules into my Vitamin A night cream for extra antioxidant protection on my skin. The colour of the cream seemed a bit intense at first, but it doesn't seem to stain my face. Hopefully I'll see further improvement in my skin texture with nightly use. I’m also considering adding Astaxanthin to my sunscreen, since it offers excellent UV protection too. I would recommend this active both externally and internally. I will definitely be taking Astaxanthin supplements the rest of my life.

  I purchased this little vial and I was amazed how far a little bit goes. One drop is enough for a 4oz bottle of cream. I have added this to all my skin care products, and I made a special cream for my husband who was in a motorcycle accident, his skin was torn off in some places. He heeled so fast even his doctors were amazed 6 days later you couldn't even tell anything happened. I used Astaxanthin and MSM together and I gave it to him internally too. My skin has improved dramatically I am 50 and no one believes me. This is AWESOME stuff and a little goes a long way.
